A smiling man with glasses and a beard playing an electric guitar against a plain white wall.

Hi, I’m jordan brock.

Good to meet you!

I started playing guitar at age 14 and immediately fell in love with the instrument. While I've learned from several teachers over the years, most of my development came through self-study. This journey taught me something invaluable: how to cultivate the habits that lead to real growth. I became deeply fascinated with the learning process itself - understanding how to practice effectively and overcome obstacles.

This passion for learning naturally led me to teaching, and there's nothing I love more than helping others unlock their potential on the guitar.

Whether you're a serious learner seeking rapid development, a parent hoping to enrich their child’s learning, or a busy person just trying to fit some practice into your schedule, I'm here to meet you exactly where you are.

My approach is patient, friendly, and completely adaptable to your pace and goals, because I believe everyone deserves to experience the life-changing power of music.

My Approach

I take a considered approach to teaching. Through years of self-study and working with students, I've developed a clear understanding of what real improvement looks like, and forged it into a method that works.

My instruction centers around three core tenets:

technique.

At the heart of any guitar-related pursuit is our ability to perform.

As a practiced metal guitarist and avid learner of many genres, I know what it feels like to get stuck on a riff or feel like your hands just can't keep up.

Rather than aimless drills or rote repetition, we'll pursue technique as a means to expand your creative palette.

So the music you hear inside can finally come out.

theory.

Some guitarists think theory is unnecessary or even detrimental to their playing. This is… misguided.

Theory provides the framework you need to understand what you're playing, improvise with confidence, and write songs with ease.

But I've also seen musicians get bogged down in overly academic concepts that serve little practical purpose. Together, we'll identify exactly what aspects of theory serve your specific goals.

You'll learn what you need to get where you want to go.

mastery.

An accomplished guitarist should feel comfortable in any musical situation. Mastery means knowing when and how to apply your knowledge to best serve the music and the moment.

It's also about the human side of music, how to collaborate effectively, communicate with other musicians, and navigate the musical world with confidence.

I don't want to just teach you the notes. I want to help you build the complete skillset of a modern guitarist.

If you’re ready to begin your learning journey with me, let’s set a date for our free introductory lesson.

We’ll meet and discuss your goals, and I’ll address any challenges you’re having with the guitar. Let me show you how much private instruction can help you.

Even if you just take the one lesson with me, I bet I can give you some insights that will stick with you for a long time to come.

Please fill out the contact form, and I will follow up with you right away!

Feel free to let me know any details, like your current skill level, your equipment, your favourite artists, or what you like to play.

I’ve taught online with students as young as age 6, as well as 60+ learners.

I’m happy to work both with complete beginners, as well as high intermediate players that are looking to refine their skills or tackle some specific issues.

I can’t wait to meet you!

My course

When I began teaching, I quickly discovered that verbal instruction was not enough.

Students need visuals to reinforce their learning and the ability to revisit content on their own time.

Many guitar teachers try to solve this by teaching out of pre-written instruction books, but that approach never appealed to me. You’d essentially be paying me to read a book for you.

I wanted content written in my own voice so your lessons and take-home materials work together seamlessly.

As I built out my library of visual guides and instructional content, I realized I had (somewhat accidentally) created a massive course for my students to learn from.

Some motivated individuals may prefer simply to access the content at their own pace and on their own terms, so for them I’ve created:

“The Grindstone”.

I have found that a great deal of guitar learning content online prioritizes clicks over quality, with misleading claims or vast oversimplifications.

Meanwhile, serious educational materials and textbooks are typically written for music college students, making them nearly impossible for self-taught players to navigate.

The Grindstone attempts to provide a middle ground: the most critical aspects of guitar theory needed for genuine progress, without the stiff terminology and formal academic concepts that are largely irrelevant for modern musicians.

If that sounds interesting to you, I invite you to check out the free portion of The Grindstone now.

my music

In January 2025, I was finally able to release a long-awaited project of mine, “Cataclysmia”.

This album was written solely by myself, and guitars and lead vocals were performed by me. Bass and drums were handled by a session musician.

It was an enormous task, but I’m pleased with the result. This album is jam-packed with musical ideas and difficult guitar work, and it should provide you with a good idea of what I’m capable of teaching you.

Along the way I also picked up some useful insights around music production and recording technique. If you’re someone interested in producing your own music, I would be more than happy to discuss this with you!
